Full credit to Thor
MDP05 has been fully dedicated to Thor and its sonic capabilities. Reminicense of old analog machines can’t be denied but we wouldn’t give Thor enough credit if we would put too much emphasis to this. Thor adds its very own distinctive character to our dream pads collection. And apart from being beautiful and unique this character is extremely versatile and rich.

Over 200 new, fresh sounding Subtractor patches subdivided into the following folders: bass, drums and perc, pads, synths. 17 complete demo tracks in RNS format showing off our Magic Chicken experience. Very inspiring and with a highly tutorialesque value. Over 40 one shot samples ripped from the Subtractor’s drums and percussion folder. About the demo tracks. Please note that the Subtractor is the only device that delivered sounds for these tracks. The only samples you will occasionally hear are taken from the Subtractor. Sometimes you want drum sounds to sound more consistent than the Subtractor can produce in real time. That’s why we made the samples.

The MS20, the Moog Source and the Waldorf Microwave have been carefully sampled and were put into Reason’s samplers making use of the unique alternate sample switch feature the NNXT has on board. This alt switching gives the sampled legends extra realism since no repeated note will sound exactly the same. Just like in the old days. The fun part during the production of this refill really began when we started to combine samples coming from these three synths within single patches. Almost all patches have their velocity controlled counter parts to introduce the nowaday possibilities of musical and intuitive control within the realms of the old, originally more static synths.

Musical Atmospheres for a colourful but soundless world
To get inspiration for this seventh part of our MDP-series we watched lots of old James Bond movies as well as the beautiful documentaries by Jacques-Yves Cousteau. It was the breathtaking atmosphere of underwater scenes we were mainly heading for. The Malström was our only supplier of sound with which we sculptured a sonic background for this silent world.
